Eagles in Action at 2007 Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Championships

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University women’s tennis team took a short ride over the city line to compete in the 2007 Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Championship Qualifying draw at the University of Michigan’s Varsity Tennis Center. The Eagles took on tough competition, walking away with an overall record of 1-3 for the day in singles play.

“We ran into tough competition, and unfortunately Sandra and Aditi have lingering injuries that kept them from playing their normal tennis,” said head coach Ryan Ray. “After this weekend, we can rest them up to get healthy for January."

Sandra Wikstrom had the lone win for the Eagles. Facing off against Leigh Finnegan of Illinois, Wikstrom fell behind 4-1 in the first set but fired back to make the score 4-3 before Finnegan retired due to injury. Wikstrom took on Lindsay Lonegren of Michigan State for the second round og qualifying singles, losing both sets, 6-1, 6-0.

The other two competing for the Green and White were Tina Bestehorn and Aditi Krishnan. Bestehorn lost to Mariana Spilca of Minnesota but didn’t give her an easy win, as they went to three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1. Krishnan saw action against Denise Muresan of Michigan, 6-2, 6-1.

The Eagles will begin doubles competition tomorrow.
